Interested in neuroscience careers beyond the lab? Registration is open for the 3rd Annual Career Fair in Neuroscience & Society on September 8, featuring more than 20 interdisciplinary areas such as neurolaw, neuroarchitecture, and neuroscience and public policy.
Run by the Career Network in Neuroscience & Society and supported by the Dana Foundation, the free virtual fair invites students and early-career professionals to hear directly from experts working at the intersection of neuroscience and society (“NeuroX” fields). Small-group sessions will connect attendees with leaders in emerging and established domains where neuroscience is making an impact.
To preview the event, we spoke with Career Network Associate Director and Senior Fellow Farron McIntee.
Farron McIntee, Ph.D.
What prompted the Career Network to create the Neuroscience & Society Virtual Career Fair?
McIntee: We launched it in 2023 to offer a free, widely accessible way for participants to learn about NeuroX careers directly from leaders in the field, as well as to provide networking opportunities. It is the only event of its kind, and attendance has increased each year.
Why should people explore NeuroX fields?
The brain is central to human behavior—dynamic and adaptable—shaping how we think, feel, act, and relate to others. As neuroscience advances through research and technological innovation, the effects will reach beyond medicine and science, and ethical, legal, and societal questions will continue to arise.
Our training systems favor specialization. But because neuroscience has broad social application, we need new leaders who have received interdisciplinary training and work.
